Tasha Liu is the founder of Labelhood, the Shanghai-based platform that has become one of the most important pieces of infrastructure supporting China’s independent fashion industry. Operating across designer incubation, runway programming, retail and community, Labelhood has played a central role in giving emerging Chinese designers visibility and commercial support. Since its launch, Labelhood has worked with a generation of labels that went on to become internationally recognized, including SHUSHU/TONG, Feng Chen Wang and PRONOUNCE.
Liu’s approach has emphasized creative authorship and long-term designer development rather than treating young brands simply as seasonal retail products. Labelhood is also an official part of the Shanghai Fashion Week ecosystem, where it has helped create a platform for emerging talent to show collections, meet buyers and connect directly with consumers.
During periods of disruption, the organization also experimented aggressively with livestreaming and digital retail, illustrating Liu’s ability to adapt fashion infrastructure to the realities of China’s market. Her broader impact lies in changing how Chinese independent fashion is perceived. By creating a system around designers — not just a store or a runway — Liu has helped move the conversation from “Made in China” toward a more confident idea of Chinese creative authorship with global relevance.
