Meng Zhaoran is the founder of DOCUMENTS (闻献), and a fragrance entrepreneur who has helped define a new generation of Chinese luxury through a restrained, design-led sensibility that draws on Eastern philosophy. He launched the Shanghai brand in 2021 with a design language it calls "Chanku," or Zen-cool.

Trained in painting from childhood, Meng studied art photography in France before building a career in brand design. After starting in PR in Beijing, he founded a floral design agency in 2014 that grew into a studio focused on packaging and branding, and worked with Gentle Monster on the creation of dessert brand Nudake. He opened DOCUMENTS' first store in Shanghai about eight months after conceiving the brand.

In 2022, DOCUMENTS became the first venture investment by L'Oréal's China fund, followed by a USHOPAL-led round in 2024. The brand has since grown past 25 stores, and in 2026 named actor Zhu Yilong global ambassador alongside the launch of its incense line, Peace Incense.
