Qin Huilan, known to her followers as Dr Qin, has become one of Chinese fashion's most distinctive personalities, proving that personal style can emerge at any age and from entirely outside the traditional fashion system.
Born in 1952 and a member of the Zhuang ethnic group, she spent her professional life as a physician in Guangxi before moving to Shanghai. There, she began dressing from the Prada and Miu Miu archive built by her son Komiku and quickly made it entirely her own. Together they now hold more than 150 pieces, with Qin particularly drawn to intricate embroidery and beadwork that she connects to the embroidered dress and silver jewelry of Zhuang tradition.
Her style has drawn admirers from Bryan Boy to Diet Prada and made her a recognizable presence on the streets of Shanghai. She has since walked the Miu Miu runway in Paris and met Miuccia Prada, turning what began as a deeply personal love of clothes into one of fashion's most joyful stories of self-expression.
