Overview
  • Role
    Artist & Singer-Songwriter
  • Description

CACIEN, also known as Garlica Princess, is a bilingual Chinese-English singer-songwriter and third-culture artist whose creative world is defined by color, high energy and a playful sense of visual experimentation. Born into a Teochew family and raised across different cultural contexts, she grew up navigating multiple languages and ideas of home.

That experience of living between worlds runs through her music, but not in a purely introspective way. CACIEN approaches identity, memory and belonging through a genre-fluid sound and a vivid visual language, transforming cultural contradiction into something exuberant, strange and emotionally immediate.

Her practice also extends beyond songwriting. Sound, taste, image and storytelling all feed into the Garlica Princess universe, giving her work a multidisciplinary quality that mirrors the way younger creative audiences encounter culture across formats rather than within a single medium.

CACIEN’s bilingualism is central to that appeal. By moving naturally between Chinese and English and between multiple cultural references, she represents a generation of Chinese creatives whose identities are inherently transnational — and whose work can speak to audiences in China and globally without needing to choose one cultural frame over another.
