Mate Li is a Shanghai-based fashion creator who moved from finance into fashion, becoming one of the freshest voices in Chinese menswear through an idiosyncratic mix of personal style, travel and front-row access. Born in Xiamen in 1996, he studied international politics at the University of International Business and Economics before earning a master's in international finance at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management.
An internship assignment to study the creator ecosystems of Xiaohongshu and Douyin first drew him to the platforms. Li opened his Xiaohongshu account in February 2019, making him one of its earliest male fashion creators, and later expanded to Douyin and Instagram with daily outfit videos. His content has since grown to include film and book commentary and solo-living diaries.
He has partnered with Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga and Loewe, and has attended Prada's menswear shows in Milan, including Fall/Winter 2024 and Fall/Winter 2025. In Beijing, he hosted a fan meetup with Dior during the house's exhibition in the city.
