- Description
Zhou Xue Ming is a Shanghai-based hair and wig artist who has spent more than a decade challenging the conventional boundaries of hairstyling. Rather than approaching hair through traditional salon logic, he treats it as a sculptural and wearable medium in its own right.
His process is highly technical and hands-on. Zhou weaves, dyes and constructs wigs manually, building unusual forms and structures that can function as complete visual statements. The work combines fantasy and precision, allowing hairstyling to operate on the same conceptual level as clothing, makeup or set design.
His practice spans runway, advertising, art exhibitions and celebrity styling. Internationally, he has contributed to major fashion presentations including Mugler in Paris, while his editorial work has appeared in publications such as Vogue, W, Dazed, ACNE PAPER and Perfect Magazine.
Zhou’s broader contribution is to expand the role of hair within Chinese fashion imagery. His work argues for hairstyling not simply as enhancement or decoration, but as an independent form of visual expression capable of carrying concept, narrative and cultural impact.
