  • Description

Michael Xufu Huang is a renowned curator, collector and art patron who co-founded X Museum in Beijing in 2020. A University of Pennsylvania graduate and longtime trustee of New York’s New Museum, Huang has built a career around identifying emerging artistic voices and creating platforms that connect China’s contemporary art scene with the international market.

Through X Museum, he has introduced internationally recognized artists including Issy Wood, Christina Quarles, Antonio Obá and Trey Abdella to Chinese audiences, often through their first solo museum exhibitions in Asia. He has also organized exhibitions featuring established figures such as Andy Warhol and Nicholas Party, broadening the institution’s role as both a discovery platform and a venue for major international art.

Huang’s work also moves in the opposite direction, creating visibility for Chinese artists abroad. Lulu by X Museum, the institution’s nonprofit satellite in Mexico, supports China-based emerging artists through overseas residencies and solo exhibitions, while projects such as “Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth” have showcased contemporary Chinese women artists internationally.

His collecting interests include new media and post-internet art, and his collection spans more than 1,000 works. Beyond the art world, Huang has also shown an interest in technology, consumer businesses and luxury, including taking on the role of artistic director of Chinese watch brand Fam al Hut in 2025.
