British F1 Grand Prix 2026: UK rap shone at Silverstone

Amid all the Paddock Club schmoozing and Monaco yacht parties, Formula 1 has always been somewhat synonymous with mainstream fashion, music, and art. But that aspect of the event has been blossoming majorly as of late. In recent years the sport has courted pop culture and the creative set: a 10-year LVMH partnership, an apparel collaboration with it-label Nahmias, Gucci’s incoming title sponsorship of Alpine, a hit Netflix series — and now Lewis Hamilton is dating billionaire reality TV star and Skims founder Kim Kardashian. Music has become part of that push. The British Grand Prix has hosted the likes of Kings of Leon, Black Eyed Peas and Raye in recent years, but the race’s 77th edition last weekend targeted a new generation more directly, handing its stages to some of the UK’s most exciting homegrown talent. Why Formula 1 is making music central to the Grand Prix weekend Formula 1 itself frames the shift as evolution rather than reinvention. Jodie Porter, F1’s head of experiences and entertainment partnerships, said, “Formula 1 has always had a strong relationship with music and entertainment; it’s been part of the DNA of a Grand Prix weekend for decades. What’s changed in recent years is that it’s no longer just about the headline acts performing on the main stage. Today, we’re much more intentional about how we bring culture into the Formula 1 ecosystem.” The centerpiece was the fourth edition of F1 Tracks: Discovery, the sport’s platform for emerging talent, which gave four rising artists the opportunity to open the main stage across the four-day race weekend. “Since the launch of F1 Tracks in 2019, music has become much more deeply integrated into the sport's wider fan engagement strategy rather than existing purely as race weekend entertainment,” explains Shoot Music Head of Sport Partnerships, Lauren Cornelius. “Championing artists across different genres, cultures and backgrounds creates much richer fan experiences, reflects the global touring nature of the sport, and helps music become a powerful point of connection between the sport and new audiences.” Jazz-house producer Charlie Jeer kicked off the series on Thursday for the 2026 British Grand Prix, followed by soul-inflected singer-songwriter Felix Green on Friday, 20-year-old Nigerian-British rapper TKandz on Saturday and Birmingham-born singer-songwriter fliss on Sunday. Nemzzz brings UK rap inside Lewis Hamilton’s House 44 suite Away from the main stage, House 44 — the hospitality suite that is a joint venture between Formula One, Lewis Hamilton and Soho House — hosted an intimate performance from British rapper Nemzzz, followed by house DJ and producer Majestic that evening and a pre-race set from drum-and-bass producer Wilkinson on Sunday. The Paddock Club has historically catered to corporate guests and celebrity DJs. Booking one of the UK’s fastest-rising rappers signals that the sport is courting a new generation of creatives. “Today, artists are introduced into the Formula 1 ecosystem through multiple touchpoints - from F1 Tracks playlist features and Song of the Week activations to live performances, DJ sets and immersive race weekend experiences within the paddock and garages,” says F1 Tracks Discovery Team. “This creates authentic, long-term relationships with artists while allowing them to become genuine advocates and fans of the sport.” Nemzzz, who has collaborated with the likes of Latto, Central Cee and Lil Yachty, said he hopes to “collect cars” one day but admitted he knew little about F1 before the weekend. The 22-year-old grew up in Gorton, a working-class area of east Manchester, and said his drive came from “having nothing.” “If you’re ever trying to get somewhere, you have to be delusional,” he said in an interview after his House 44 performance. “I’m showing people that there’s no limit to what you can do. There’s nothing that can stop you from achieving it. I try to tap into that in my music. It's therapy for me.” Nemzzz’s presence inside House 44 distilled that strategy: Paddock Club guests sipped champagne and watched the race as the Manchester rapper performed — a pairing that felt brand new for the Grand Prix. “Music has the unique ability to transcend borders, and by partnering with artists across different genres and markets, F1 strengthens its position as a global entertainment and lifestyle brand,” says the F1 Discovery Team. Fellow Discovery performer TKandz, who released a remix of his breakout hit Now or Never with American rapper Lil Baby in February, said in an interview, “I was already familiar with F1 before attending Silverstone as an artist, as I saw a huge presence on social media and the ever-growing love that the fans show to the sport,” he continued. “Lando Norris used my song Now or Never on TikTok, which made me connect with the sport on a more personal level and led to my song Grand Prix.” How F1’s Gen Z strategy is reshaping the British Grand Prix The sport has made attracting a younger audience a priority. Per F1’s own figures, 43% of its global fanbase is now under 35, a 30% increase since 2018. Netflix’s Drive to Survive documentary series reached around seven million viewers, with people aged 18 to 29 accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of the audience. The Paddock Club crowd itself still skewed older, but across the content creators and music lineups, the weekend’s courtship of Gen Z was unmistakable. “What makes the British GP particularly exciting from an entertainment perspective is the UK’s influence on global music, fashion, sport, and culture,” said Porter. “That gives us access to an incredible mix of talent and creative partners who genuinely want to be part of the Formula 1 story.” Perhaps that’s what made Silverstone the right stage for this experiment. The British Grand Prix has always traded on heritage — the airfield circuit, the home-crowd roar for Hamilton and Lando Norris — but one of Britain’s biggest creative exports these days is its youth culture. The UK’s rap scene has a huge influence on Gen Z, and by giving Nemzzz and TKandz its stages, the Silverstone F1 tapped into, homegrown, cultural credibility.
