In TUMI’s Fall/Winter 2026 campaign, he swaps the high-speed racetrack for the Scottish Highlands alongside a travel companion. Inspired by the Alpine landscape, the campaign frames TUMI’s idea of progress through calm, precision and purpose. Deep Pine, Forest Camo and earthy neutrals refresh its established collections, while the new AXIS brings a lighter, more streamlined approach to everyday bags for commuting and daily life. More than a literal journey towards the summit, Lando Norris’ trip into the Scottish Highlands captures TUMI’s broader evolution in recent years. Its icons remain, but are continually reinterpreted through new colors, designs and contexts. TUMI is not alone in this shift: as the boundaries between travel and everyday life continue to blur, luggage and performance brands are moving further into lifestyle. The real test, however, is not how much more they can make, but whether their existing strengths can translate meaningfully across new categories and occasions — and give consumers compelling new reasons to buy. What makes TUMI worth watching, then, is not simply how many new occasions it enters, but the broader growth question it is trying to answer. As traditional market boundaries break down, how can a brand expand into new products and speak to new consumers and lifestyles without diluting what makes it distinctive — and turn that expansion into sustained growth? Efficient movement: The foundation of TUMI’s expansion As the lines between work, travel and everyday life continue to blur, consumers are asking more of the products they carry. A bag is no longer expected to serve a single purpose; it must move easily between commuting, short trips, mobile work, leisure and even light outdoor use. For luggage and performance brands, expanding beyond a single use case is no longer optional, it is a response to the way people live today. As TUMI’s product and use cases continue to expand, Aris Maroulis, TUMI Vice President of Asia Pacific and the Middle East, puts it simply: “TUMI is not moving away from travel, but broadening what travel means.” The strategy is to evolve from a high-performance business travel brand into a travel-led, all-scenario lifestyle brand, extending its strengths from business trips to daily commutes, weekend escapes and outdoor exploration. There are broadly two ways for a brand to move from a core category into a wider lifestyle proposition. The first is to extend familiar logos, patterns, colors or silhouettes into new products, using recognizable visual codes to maintain continuity. The more demanding approach is to translate proven product capabilities across new occasions, categories and ways of living. TUMI is more interesting for taking the latter route. Its long-term advantage is not any single luggage or business bag, but a broader system built around efficient movement: durability, lightness, quick access, functional organization, ergonomics and a deep understanding of how people move through the world. In other words, TUMI has never been only about how to carry things, but how to move with greater efficiency and ease. That gives TUMI a clear base for expansion. Rather than inventing a new product logic for every new occasion, the brand is taking capabilities developed around business travel and applying them to today’s more complex and demanding lifestyles. Alpha offers one of the clearest examples of how this idea of efficient movement has evolved. The original Alpha was designed for frequent business travelers, building its reputation on durability, capacity and a professional look. Black FXT® ballistic nylon, densely organized storage and quick-access compartments for travel essentials and devices helped turn it into a longstanding business staple. But the way people move has changed. Business travel is no longer defined only by long journeys between airports, hotels and meeting rooms. Shorter trips, urban commuting and mobile work are more frequent, increasing demand for lighter, more flexible products with better tech organization. The latest evolution of Alpha refines rather than replaces that original logic. Its silhouette is cleaner, its weight lighter, its structure more streamlined, and its tech organization better suited to short trips and urban commuting. Upgraded materials and new colors such as Electric Blue, meanwhile, refresh the visual language of the collection. The products and occasions may change, but the underlying principle remains the same: making movement frictionless. Same core, new expression Expansion, however, is not simply about creating more products or entering new occasions. The real test is whether a brand can carry its established strengths into a changing consumer landscape and keep them relevant. Bain & Company’s Spring 2026 update to the Bain-Altagamma Global Luxury Goods Worldwide Market Study found that consumers remain interested in luxury, but are becoming less tolerant of disappointing products and experiences. As they compare and scrutinize purchases more closely, brands need to offer clearer value and stronger reasons to buy. For premium brands, first-impression appeal still matters, but so does real-life performance. That means design can no longer exist solely for aesthetics; it must make a brand’s underlying strengths tangible to consumers. At TUMI, design serves as that vital bridge. Uncompromising quality, durability and functionality remain the foundation, but are thoughtfully reinterpreted through colors, materials, silhouettes and formats to align with today’s rhythms of life. TUMI Global Creative Director, Victor Sanz, describes this shift as moving from “function-driven” to “emotion-driven” design — not abandoning function but giving consumers another reason to like the product beyond how well it works. The principle is simple: preserve recognizability while refreshing its expression. Color is one of the most immediate ways to achieve that. In recent years, from the rise of dopamine dressing to a broader appetite for emotionally expressive palettes, color has moved beyond decoration into a means for consumers to signal personality and forge a more emotional connection with the products they choose. Take 19 Degree collection as an example. Its signature sculptural ridges and aluminum feel remain, but Front Access construction, material changes and seasonal colors such as Metallic Blue, Pink Clay and Thyme add different moods and contexts to the same familiar silhouette. That translation is even more visible in TUMI’s women’s and lifestyle lines. Q-tote from the Voyageur collection is designed to move between commuting and everyday leisure, while Olas brings a more urban, fashion-forward sensibility. Rather than adopting a separate product logic, these lines reinterpret TUMI’s durability, functionality and efficiency through silhouettes, materials and colors that better reflect women’s daily lives and aesthetic expectations. Aris says consumer response to these color shifts has been clear: 19 Degree in Pink Clay drew strong attention on Rednote, while the brighter, more dreamlike seasonal palette of Mediterranean Escape amplified the collection visually and broadened its appeal among consumers. This is where TUMI Global Creative Director Victor Sanz’s design approach matters. Rather than reinventing TUMI, he uses color, materials and silhouette to make the brand’s performance-led design logic relevant across business travel, commuting, weekend trips and everyday life. When performance, function, and design come together, that's where true luxury lives. As Victor puts it: “At TUMI, luxury is not about being louder or making a statement for the sake of it, it’s about creating products that are intelligently designed, perform at the highest level and continue to deliver value throughout the customer's journey.” Elevating the brand building deeper connections Once the product evolution is in place, the question shifts to the brand itself: how do you get consumers not only to notice the change, but to embrace it — and to think of TUMI across a wider range of moments in their lives? In a market crowded with products and fragmented attention, exposure is no longer the scarce resource. What matters is whether a brand is among the first that comes to mind when a purchase decision is made. Aris has also seen a shift in how consumers build long-term relationships with brands. “While functional benefits remain fundamental, brand loyalty is increasingly driven by the overall experience and value alignment,” he said. That means product alone is no longer enough. Brands need repeated points of contact that deepen understanding and give consumers more reasons to choose them over time. For TUMI, those connections come through different channels: ambassadors who bring new cultural and lifestyle associations, flagships that offer a fuller brand experience, events that place products in real-life settings, and services that extend the relationship beyond the purchase. In January this year, TUMI released a brand campaign for the new-generation Alpha collection that interprets the mindset of today’s high-performers. Featuring Global Brand Ambassador and F1 driver Lando Norris, the campaign reinforces TUMI’s enduring DNA of speed, precision and high performance. Drawing on the rigorous spirit of professional motorsport, TUMI further strengthens its core brand with attributes of excellence, efficiency and reliability, engaging premium consumers who value quality, efficiency and diverse lifestyles. Offline, TUMI is translating that brand expression into an experience consumers can engage with directly. In July 2025, TUMI opened its first China flagship on Shanghai’s Nanjing West Road, with interiors inspired by the signature 19 Degree collection. Through scenario-led merchandising, distinct product zones and a cohesive design language, the store brings together business, travel, commuting and lifestyle collections in a single space, offering a more complete picture of the brand’s expanding universe. Aris confirmed that TUMI will continue to invest in key cities, airports and flagship locations, while expanding and upgrading stores to deepen consumer experience. Earlier this year, TUMI extended that approach into travel and leisure for its Spring/Summer 2026 Mediterranean Escape collection. The campaign unfolded across a global creator trip in Sicily, an Asia-Pacific brand experience in Koh Samui and a pop-up in China, placing the products within a series of distinct lifestyle settings. In China, TUMI brought its Mediterranean-inspired world to life with an April pop-up at Shanghai’s Grand Gateway 66. Drawing on the atmosphere of a Greek coastal villa, the space combined poolside details, woven textures and seasonal colors to create an immersive holiday setting for the 19 Degree, Voyageur, Olas and Harrison collections. DIY fragrance-stone and nail-art activities invited customer participation, while TUMI friend, Zheng Hehuizi, attended the opening. Such experiences do more than showcase new products. They transform color, materials, and lifestyle cues into immersive settings that consumers can step into and experience firsthand, broadening their understanding of how — and where — TUMI fits into their lives. The relationship then extends beyond the point of purchase through online and in-store personalization and repair services, sustaining the brand connection throughout the product’s life cycle. What makes TUMI’s approach notable, then, is not the number of new occasions it enters, but the growth logic behind them: its core capability expands outward, and, in turn, reinforces the brand. “Efficient movement” remains the foundation. Design gives that core capability fresh expression, while retail, immersive experiences, and services extend it into more moments of everyday life. The expansion is not one-way. New products and occasions grow out of TUMI’s core capabilities, while also reinforcing consumers’ understanding of — and reasons for choosing — the brand. Growth, in other words, is not simply about broadening TUMI’s reach; each extension strengthens what the brand already does best. As more luggage brands pursue lifestyle growth, TUMI offers a useful model: true expansion isn't about creating a new narrative, but making core capabilities work across new categories, audiences, and daily routines.
