French retailers sue Shein over alleged unfair competition

Major French retail associations and over 60 companies including Promod and Monoprix filed a landmark unfair competition lawsuit against fast fashion platform Shein. The coalition, representing 12 industry groups, targets Shein’s two Irish-registered entities, alleging systematic unfair practices since its French market entry. Recent customs checks found 80% of inspected Shein packages failed compliance standards. The platform already faces 190 million euros ($206 million) in existing fines. Hearings are scheduled for January 12 at the Aix-en-Provence Commercial Court, where companies will seek compensation for losses over five years.
