  • Description

Mao Geping is an icon of modern Chinese beauty and one of the country’s most influential makeup artists. He became known for a highly sculptural approach to makeup centered on light and shadow, creating film and television looks that became cultural references in their own right. His influence extends far beyond individual images. Mao helped bring the profession of makeup artistry out from behind the scenes in China, elevating it into a visible creative discipline and contributing to a broader public understanding of makeup as a form of image-making, technique and aesthetic expression.

In 2000, he founded MAOGEPING, building a premium Chinese beauty brand around Eastern facial structures, aesthetic traditions and a highly recognizable approach to complexion and contour. The same year, he established a professional image-design school, creating a systematic training platform for makeup artists and extending his influence to a new generation of practitioners.

Across artistry, education and entrepreneurship, Mao has spent decades advocating for the modernization of Eastern aesthetics and the elevation of Chinese beauty culture. His career makes him not simply a founder, but a foundational figure in the development of China’s contemporary beauty industry.
