Hugo Boss Goes High-Tech For 3D “New Dimension Beijing” Fashion Show Coming a little over a year after Burberry’s game-changing fashion bash in Beijing, which included virtual image technology combining live models, holograms and live-streaming via Burberry.com, on May 18 Hugo Boss is set to launch its 3D “New Dimension Beijing” event. For the “BOSS Black Fashion Show,” Hugo Boss will showcase its A/W 2012 BOSS Black collection at a live runway show and via a live-stream on hugoboss.com in 3D, and optimize the show for iPhone apps and social media networks. In the run-up to the event at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, to be hosted by Patrice Bouédibéla and Wang Yi-zhi, Hugo Boss is providing free “BOSS Black” 3D glasses, which can be ordered via hugoboss.com or hugoboss.cn, and through Facebook and Sina Weibo, as well as at some Hugo Boss stores worldwide. What Effect Will Sotheby's $120 Million "Scream" Sale Have On Chinese Art? Last night in New York, following a prolonged battle between two phone bidders, Sotheby’s set a new world record with the US$119.9 million sale of Edvard Munch’s iconic work “The Scream.” Packed with dozens of top-quality historical works, the Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale eventually totaled $330.6 million, a new auction house record for a sale of Impressionist and Modern art, and the second-highest total for any category at Sotheby’s. According to David Norman, Co-Chairman of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Department, “I have been at Sotheby’s for three decades, and the sale of The Scream in tonight’s auction is the most exciting moment I have experienced here." Jing Daily Interview: Shanghai Cult Boutique, Le Lutin Founded in December 2009, Le Lutin — an anagram of the founders’ surnames, Lin and Tu, as well as the French for “imp” — stocks an ever-changing array of designers and independent brands, among them Preen, Jenni Kayne, Jen Kao, Boy by Band of Outsiders, TBA and Ran Fan. We met up with Diana at Le Lutin’s new location, a spacious 510 square meter space opened earlier this year. British Luxury Jeweler Graff Diamonds Prepares Hong Kong IPO The latest in a string of high-end brands listing in Hong Kong to fuel expansion in the Greater China region, Britain’s Graff Diamonds is expected to seek approval this week from the Hong Kong stock exchange for an initial public offering of as much as US$1 billion. As Reuters notes, this would surpass the $600 million listing by the property fund of Tesco’s Thai unit, the biggest IPO in the Asia-Pacific region so far this year. Though, as Reuters points out, no timetable has yet been set for Graff to start meeting with possible investors, Hong Kong IPO candidates have generally started this process around a week after approval from the stock exchange. Jing Daily Interview: Up-And-Coming Shanghai Fashion Brand, Front Row Among the brands selling their own designs via Taobao, one of the most successful and fast-growing is Front Row. Though still a relative newcomer to the fashion scene, the brand’s reputation has grown quickly among everyone from younger Chinese white-collar workers to international bloggers, and some of the company’s designs have been purchased by the British fast-fashion retailer Topshop. The brand’s growth has seen it outgrow its initial online shop, and later this month, Front Row will upgrade from a simple Taobao store to a full-featured e-commerce site at FrontRowShop.com.
