Site-Specific Gunpowder Works At The Geffen Contemporary At MOCA #

The Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang has recently been hard at work at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA for his latest exhibition, "Sky Ladder." Consisting of a gunpowder-charged performance, "Mystery Circle," a suspended installation entitled "Crop Circle," and three gunpowder paintings (including the 108-foot-wide piece “Childhood Spaceship”), the exhibition, on view through July 30, combines the ephemeral and permanent as only Cai's work can. This week, the visual art search engine Art.sy posted a terrific short film on the exhibition, speaking to Cai about his career, "Sky Ladder" and his thoughts about the simultaneously beautiful and destructive nature of gunpowder.
