How Jaeger-LeCoultre is winning more ‘wrist time’ for the Master Control Chronometre

In the past, buyers of high-end watches tended to focus on movements, heritage and craftsmanship. Today, the same investment is expected to deliver more than collectability and status. Increasingly, consumers want a watch that can move across different parts of their lives — and stay on the wrist for the long term. That shift is reshaping the high-end watch market. A watch is no longer expected to serve only as a marker of status for special occasions; it also has to work across commuting, travel, social settings and everyday life. With the Master Control Chronometre, introduced this year, Jaeger-LeCoultre is trying to bring fine watchmaking and more frequent wear into the same product. The collection launches with three models — the Master Control Chronometre Date, Master Control Chronometre Date Power Reserve and Master Control Chronometre Perpetual Calendar — spanning everyday functions and more complex watchmaking. Cases measuring 38 to 39 millimeters, slim profiles and integrated metal bracelets broaden the range of occasions in which the watches can be worn, bringing the traditional round dress watch more naturally into commuting, travel, social and leisure settings. Making a watch easier to wear, however, does not mean lowering the technical bar. The collection debuts Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new High Precision Guarantee, or HPG, which tests the fully assembled watch over three days under conditions designed to simulate a week of real-life wear, including changes in temperature, position and shocks. The certification also covers movement finishing, with requirements spanning traditional techniques such as Côtes de Genève, polished screw heads, sinked rubies and bevelling. Alongside COSC certification, the message is clear: a watch designed to be worn more often can still meet the precision and craftsmanship expected of fine watchmaking. Jaeger-LeCoultre has taken a similarly layered approach to marketing the global launch, moving from international visibility to local relevance. Robert Pattinson first wore an unreleased model at the Oscars in March before later becoming a global ambassador for the brand. In China, Friend of the Maison Wang Shun (汪顺) has helped place the collection within a local mix of sport, fashion and lifestyle. In September, the brand also opened its “The Precision Maker” pop-up at Zhangyuan in Shanghai, using its history, watchmaking craftsmanship and HPG testing to give consumers a closer understanding of the product. In South Korea, actor Kim Woo-bin fronts a campaign for the collection, further broadening its image across Asia. For Jaeger-LeCoultre, this is more than a product launch. It is an attempt to make fine watchmaking a more meaningful part of everyday life.
