Second Annual Hainan Rendez-Vous Goes Bigger and Aims Higher Hainan Rendez-Vous returns for its second year in Sanya. Last year's Hainan Rendez-Vous, a luxury event designed to draw China's ultra high net worth individuals to the so-called "Chinese Riviera," showcased the country's nascent yachting and private jetting lifestyle and brought dozens of the world's top luxury and lifestyle brands to Sanya, Hainan Province. Following up on the success of Hainan Rendez-Vous 2010, this year's event is set for April 1-4, 2011 and is expected to attract some 8,000 Chinese high net worth individuals. Major sponsors from 2010 have renewed their commitments to this year's event, and include wealth management services provider Deutsche Bank, watchmaker Chopard, luxury hotel Mandarin Oriental Sanya, cognac label Martell and French champagne label Perrier Jouet. As we were last year, Jing Daily is a media partner for this year's event. With the event pushing Hainan to become China's future yachting epicenter, the Hainan Rendez-Vous will display yachts from Luerssen, Blohm+Voss, Royal Huisman, Feretti Group, Aximut Benetti, Sunseeker, Princess Yachts, Speedo Marine and Sease, among others. With demand for yachts growing in China, the Visun Royal Yacht Club in downtown Sanya (which will display the yachts for the event) is currently undergoing construction to hold five times as many yachts, superyachts and megayachts. Wang Dafu, the owner of the complex that includes the marina, said "the expansion is necessary because this event has made it clear that demand for berthing space is going to escalate in coming years." Last year's event brought in 5,600 guests. Organizers expect that number to reach 8,000 this year Additionally, China's interest in private aviation is growing, with China relaxing many of its restrictions on airspace and Chinese executives needing to travel globally faster and more easily. While there were only around 150 business jets in China in December of 2010, the number is expected to increase rapidly, and Hainan Rendez-Vous aims to fill this increasing demand. The aviation section of the Hainan Rendez-Vous will be larger than last year, with aircraft makers including Airbus Corporate Jet, Boeing Business Jet, Bell Helicopter, Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Embraer and Gulfstream. To round out the luxury experience, organizers are also planning to display an "Art in Hainan" collection. A collaboration with the Shanghai- and Paris-based Magda Danyzs Art Gallery, the collection will exhibit works by Chinese and international artists, including the well-received collection of photographs by Karl Lagerfeld currently on display at the 18Gallery at Shanghai's Bund18. Hainan Rendez-Vous will encourage collectors through workshops and seminars aimed at how to invest in art and how to start a meaningful art collection.
