Four Seasons Has High Hopes For New Beijing Hotel

Beijing Location Is Hotelier's Third New Property In China This Year Taking reservations starting this month, the Four Seasons Beijing marks the leading hotelier's first foray into the Chinese capital following recent openings in Guangzhou and Shanghai. Located in the Liangmahe area of Beijing's Central Business District, near the Third Diplomatic Precinct, the Four Seasons Beijing expects to woo not only business travelers but luxury-minded tourists looking for five-star accommodations in the heart of the city. Overseen by General Manager Sanjiv Hulugalle and 600 staff members, the Four Seasons Beijing follows many other international hotels in the city in infusing the hotel with traditional and modern Chinese-influenced design, with a facade reminiscent of Beijing's imperial palaces. Interiors use colors, textures and patterns that are immediately familiar to Chinese guests, such as gold leaf and yellow -- the Imperial color of the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Throughout the hotel, carpets include hints of dragon imagery. Surrounding the sky-lit atrium, the Four Seasons Beijing includes 313 guest rooms and suits, designed as sanctuaries from the city's notorious hustle and bustle. Room features include plush robes, iPod docking stations, espresso machines, and twice-daily housekeeping. 66 suites in the hotel include oversize Ambassador Suites, Beijing Suites (featuring walk-in closets), and Chairman Suites that can be expanded for families. At the top floor sits the palatial 730 square meter (7,860 square foot) Imperial Suite, which also includes a 250 square meter (2,690 square foot) balcony. The Imperial Suite includes its own living area and exercise room, two additional bedrooms, a library study, media room, staff kitchen, direct elevator, and outdoor living space with fire pit and plunge pool. As should be expected, the Four Seasons Beijing will also offer plenty of dining options for guests, with a 130-strong culinary team led by Executive Chef Martin Knaubert overseeing the hotel's two restaurants and three lounges. Guests can take in the art-filled Opus Lounge, ultra-luxury Opus Bar, Chinese restaurant Cai Yi Xuan, Italian dining at Mio, or the intimate Tea Garden. Taking reservations now, the Four Seasons Beijing is the hotelier's third property to open in China this year, following locations in Guangzhou and Pudong, Shanghai this summer. Introductory packages at the Four Seasons Beijing range from 1,988 yuan (US$318) per night. In addition to these three new hotels, the Four Seasons portfolio in Greater China includes locations in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau Cotai Strip and Hangzhou, West Lake. Looking ahead, the Four Seasons has a dozen additional projects "in advanced stages of development."
