Event Watch: Fine Art Asia 2012 (Hong Kong)

More Than 6,000 Pieces On Show At Fair's 8th Edition Part of Hong Kong's bid to become a regional cultural and arts -- rather than just an economic -- hub, Fine Art Asia returns next month for its eighth installment. Taking place at the Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Centre from October 4-7, this year the fair is set to present its best lineup yet, with over 90 exhibitors showing 6,000 works of art worth more than HK$2 billion. Key works appearing at this year's fair include Monet's "Pommiers en Fleurs" (1878), valued at HK$66.3 million (US$8.5 million) and a 9th century Tibetan bronze Bodhisattva worth HK$42.9 million ($5.5 million). Other items on show include everything from 17th-19th century Chinese and European decorative arts, as well as jewelry and watches by the likes of Cartier and Boucheron and modern art by Zao Wou-Ki and Van Gogh. Organizers expect over 20,000 visitors at this year's event. In preparation for the fair, an Italian furniture exhibition, "From 20th Century to Eternity," will be previewed at K11 through September 30. In addition to pieces by Matteo Thun, Michele de Lucchi and Marco Zanuso Jr., the exhibition includes iconic works like "Carlton" (1981) by Ettore Sottsass and Nanda Vigo's "Table" (2008). Also running before Fine Art Asia 2012 will be the third collaborative exhibition between the fair and luxury boutique hotel The Upper House , "Within Shan Shui," featuring artwork by a selection of contemporary artists inspired by traditional Chinese landscape painting.
