China Well Represented On Asia's 50 Best Restaurants List

17 Restaurants In Hong Kong, Mainland China, And Macau On List Less than a month after several China-based restaurateurs were included in the 2013 Miele Guide, the Greater China region was well represented on the new Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list. In total, 17 restaurants in Hong Kong, mainland China, and Macau made the S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna-sponsored list, with four making the top 10. Leading the way was Hong Kong's Amber (ranked fourth on overall list, top for China), helmed by Dutch-born chef Richard Ekkebus, followed by Umberto Bombana's three-year-old Hong Kong hotspot 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana (#6). Coming in after the Hong Kong luminaries were Shanghai's Mr & Mrs Bund (#7) and Ultraviolet (#8), both led by French chef Paul Pairet (Jing Daily interview). As an added bonus, Pairet received Asia’s first ever “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the event in Singapore. Other standouts on this year's list included Hong Kong's Lung King Heen -- the world’s first Chinese restaurant to receive three Michelin stars -- which ranked 13th, Hangzhou's 28 HuBin Road (#25), helmed by Shen Liexing, and popular Hong Kong izakaya (and Jing Daily favorite) Yardbird (#46).
