Data analytics becomes the primary trigger The case also offers another glimpse into how tax enforcement is evolving. Authorities said Yue was identified through advanced tax data analytics after her declared income appeared inconsistent with her commercial activity and industry profile. Rather than relying on whistleblowers or public revelations, regulators are increasingly comparing tax filings against banking records, platform transactions, corporate accounts, and other digital data sources. For beauty entrepreneurs, the message is becoming harder to ignore. China’s tax authorities disclosed that they investigated 1,818 high-income individuals, including celebrities and influencers, during the first 11 months of 2025, recovering 1.52 billion RMB ($224 million) in unpaid taxes. Yue’s case suggests the scope of those investigations is broadening.
