Chanel returned to sales growth in 2025, buoyed by US demand

Chanel returned to growth last year as US shoppers lifted sales at the luxury group known for its pricey tweed ensembles and No. 5 perfume. Comparable revenue rose 1.8% in 2025 from the year before, reaching $19.3 billion on growth across all businesses, Chanel said Tuesday. The Americas led the expansion, growing 7.2%, while the decline in Asia-Pacific — which makes up almost half of the business — narrowed. The prior year, comparable revenue fell 4.3%. “China returned to growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 and that momentum has continued into 2026,” Chief Financial Officer Philippe Blondiaux said in an interview. Overall, the privately held company has experienced high-single-digit growth rates since the second half of last year, he added. Chanel’s performance proved more resilient than LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury conglomerate. Following a post-pandemic boom in demand for high-end goods, Chanel and rivals saw growth suffer amid a backlash against steep price increases and lackluster interest from shoppers, especially in China. The downturn prompted a creative shakeup across major brands, from Kering’s Gucci to LVMH’s Christian Dior Couture, as fashion houses moved to freshen their offerings and drum up enthusiasm among wealthy consumers. Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel debut: early signals and client response Chanel named Matthieu Blazy as its new artistic director in December 2024. The designer unveiled his debut collection last October, and his first creations became available for purchase in stores in March. “The early holistic indicators are very good. Clients are excited,” Chief Executive Officer Leena Nair said in an interview. “The collections have been in the boutiques only since March 2026, so it’s very early to talk about numbers in totality across the house. But we are confident, we are on track, and it’s in line with our expectations.” Operating profit for 2025 rose 5.2%, while capital expenditures declined by 17% to $1.45 billion following record real estate investments the prior year. Chanel publishes its financial results once a year, generally in May. While the brand offers fragrance and beauty products, watches and jewelry pieces, the fashion category, which includes ready-to-wear and accessories, represents about two-thirds of the business. The group made acquisitions totaling $640.4 million last year to support its manufacturing, the company said in a UK filing. That compares with $109.2 million in 2024.
