Mercedes-Benz EV sales drop 9% as BMW widens lead

Mercedes-Benz’s global EV sales fell 9% to 168,800 units in 2025, widening its gap with BMW, whose EV sales rose 3.6% to 442,072. The results highlight competitive pressure on Mercedes-Benz as it aims to revive its electrification strategy. The company faces challenges in key markets, particularly China, where all three major German automakers are losing share to domestic brands like BYD. Mercedes-Benz’s total global vehicle sales declined 9% last year, with China deliveries dropping 19%. Despite the downturn, the company sees potential in upcoming models like its award-winning CLA electric sedan and forthcoming electric GLC, both with strong order books extending into late 2026.
