Maserati is resorting to drastic price cuts to revive declining sales in China. The brand’s electric SUV, the Grecale Folgore, now sells for 358,800 RMB ($50,000) — a 54% drop from its original 898,800 RMB ($125,000). Despite aggressive discounts, only 83 units sold in September, with 1,023 units from January to September 2024, reflecting a 3% YoY decline. Dealers attribute steep discounts to special inventory and new store promotions. However, customers note Maserati’s diminishing brand appeal, citing outdated design, slow electric transition, and inferior craftsmanship versus rivals like Porsche. The trend highlights challenges for ultra-luxury carmakers in China, as Bentley and Ferrari also face sales drops.
