According to Middle Eastern news outlet Zawya, Alibaba’s cross-border e-commerce platform AliExpress has recently become the second most-visited e-commerce site in Saudi Arabia. The country, the largest e-commerce market in the Middle East, has seen rapid growth, reaching a market size of 50 billion Saudi riyals ($13.3 billion). AliExpress previously appointed Saudi football stars Salem Al-Dawsari and Firas Al-Buraikan as brand ambassadors to strengthen its local appeal. In a further move to deepen its presence, Saudi Arabia’s largest supermarket chain, Othaim Markets, has joined the platform. Since June, Saudi consumers have been able to order a wide range of Othaim products via AliExpress, with delivery available in as little as one hour.
