Chinese sellers fuel 60% growth on Africa’s Jumia
Amid rising U.S.-China trade tensions, Chinese exporters are increasingly turning to Africa, with e-commerce platform Jumia Technologies becoming a major partner. Of Jumia’s 12,000 international sellers, most are Chinese, accounting for one-third of product sales. This segment is growing at 60% annually. Jumia, which operates in nine African countries and earned $167.5 million in revenue in 2024, serves about 5.4 million users. It has attracted Chinese sellers through free warehousing, a 70-person Shenzhen team, and a fully localized Chinese platform. Chinese sellers are helping Jumia expand product categories, particularly in fashion, beauty, home, and electronics.
