Mercedes joins Chinese EV makers in EU tariff lawsuit challenge

Mercedes has joined the lawsuit against the EU’s high tariffs, alongside BYD, Geely, SAIC, Tesla, and BMW, highlighting industry-wide opposition. Last October, the European Commission imposed five-year countervailing duties on Chinese EVs, adding 17.0% for BYD, 18.8% for Geely, 35.3% for SAIC, 20.7% for other cooperating firms, and 7.8% for Tesla, with non-cooperative companies facing 35.3%. Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius has criticized EU protectionism, warning of risks to German automakers in China. Mercedes' legal action reflects both its own interests and broader industry concerns over trade disruption.
