Disney targets Southeast Asia with Singapore cruise launch
Disney is expanding its reach into the Southeast Asian market with the launch of its “Disney Adventure” cruise, which will debut in Singapore at the end of 2024. The cruise, aimed at attracting visitors from India and Southeast Asia, is positioned as a floating theme park to tap into a market that is less accessible to Disney’s land-based theme parks. Disney’s move into the cruise business comes after stagnating performance in its Asian theme parks, particularly in Shanghai and Hong Kong, which have struggled with declining visitor numbers and consumer spending. The company is looking to leverage cruises as a more flexible and cost-effective way to bring its brand to new markets, with plans to expand its cruise fleet and make significant investments in the next decade to capture growing demand in Asia.
