Ferrari readies performance version of its $520,000 Purosangue

Ferrari is working on a performance version of its four-door Purosangue, according to people familiar with the matter, providing a fresh look for the pivotal model several years after its introduction. The new variant will retain its naturally aspirated V12 engine and begin production in the second half of this year, the people said, asking not to be named discussing private matters. A performance-tuned Purosangue would reinforce the brand’s racing credentials, while allowing the Italian supercar maker to refresh one of its important models, adding a premium pricing tier without significantly raising volumes. The derivative will include handling upgrades to further distinguish the model within Ferrari’s lineup, the people said. “We do not provide comments on future models,” Ferrari said in response to questions from Bloomberg. Overall, Ferrari made nearly 14,000 cars in 2025, keeping a cap on volumes to preserve exclusivity. The company has said it intends to hold Purosangue output to about 20% of total annual production, limiting how quickly deliveries can ramp even amid strong demand. The company in February issued new targets for 2026 that reassured investors about the supercar maker’s ability to sustain growth and margins. Ferrari has offered performance packages before. The Assetto Fiorano configuration, used on the SF90 Stradale and 296 GTB for example, typically combines chassis tuning, weight-saving components and other upgrades to sharpen handling, at an added cost of around $30,000 or more. Wider reach The Purosangue, Ferrari’s first-ever four-door four-seater, has played an important role in broadening the company’s customer base beyond traditional two-seat sportscars. Starting at around 450,000 euros ($520,000), the crossover has contributed to a richer product mix and higher average selling prices since its introduction in September 2022. Demand has been strong, with early production slots selling out quickly. The decision to stick with ICE technology suggests Ferrari continues to see strong demand for high-performance combustion powertrains even as it advances its hybrid and electric strategy. The Purosangue, which the automaker calls a Ferrari utility vehicle, competes against less-expensive sport-luxury entries including Lamborghini’s Urus, Aston Martin’s DBX, and the Porsche Cayenne. Production is expected to start as early as next fall at Ferrari’s Maranello plant, the people said. The launch will be part of Ferrari’s broader 2026 rollout. Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna has said the company plans to offer clients an average of four new models per year between 2026 and 2030 across internal combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains.
