Jing Daily has covered the business of luxury in China and Asia since 2009. Our readers are industry leaders who make decisions on the strength of what we publish. This page sets out how we work, so you know what to expect from us and can hold us to it.
Independence #
Our editors decide what we cover and how. Advertisers, sponsors, event partners, research and advisory clients, and our owner have no say in editorial decisions.
We report on companies that are also our commercial partners in the same way as any other. Where a partnership is directly relevant to a story, we say so in the article.
Accuracy and sourcing #
- We verify facts before publishing and go to primary sources wherever we can: company filings, official statistics, platform data and people with direct knowledge.
- We name the source of every figure. Where data comes from a brand, an agency or a commissioned survey, we say so.
- We link to original sources, including Chinese-language ones. When we cite posts on Weibo, Xiaohongshu, Douyin or WeChat, we name the platform. Translations are our own unless stated.
- We ask companies and individuals for comment before publishing critical claims about them, and give them reasonable time to reply.
- We grant anonymity only when a source has direct knowledge and could face real consequences for speaking, and when the information matters to readers. An editor always knows who the source is.
Attribution and syndicated content #
We credit other outlets’ reporting and link to it. We do not publish others’ work as our own.
Some articles come from news agencies and content partners, including Bloomberg News. These carry the partner’s byline and are published under license. Intel briefs are short summaries by our China desk of announcements and third-party reporting.
Articles in our Chinese edition are translations or adaptations of our English reporting unless marked otherwise.
How we label our work #
News: Reported facts, attributed to sources.
Analysis: A reporter's or editor's interpretation, grounded in reporting.
Opinion: A named contributor's own view, not Jing Daily's. Any relevant business interest is disclosed in the author's line.
Intel: Brief summaries of the day's developments.
Report: Research from Jing Daily or Jing Intelligence; any commissioning partner is named on the cover.
Partner content: Paid for by an advertiser. See below.
Commercial content #
Jing Daily earns revenue from advertising and from content, research and events produced with commercial partners. We keep this separate from our journalism.
- Partner content is paid for by an advertiser and labeled.
- Events. Our editors choose the topics and speakers. Sponsors are named, and a sponsor’s speaking slot is identified as such.
- Research and advisory. Clients of Jing Intelligence and our advisory work receive no preferential coverage, and client information is not shared with the newsroom.
- Advertising is visually distinct from editorial content.
Gifts, travel and conflicts of interest #
- Our journalists do not accept payment or favors from the companies they cover.
- We accept invitations to brand-funded trips and events only when there is clear editorial value, and we disclose the host’s support at the foot of any resulting article.
- Staff do not report on companies in which they or their close family hold a financial interest, and must tell their editor about any connection that could appear to affect their work.
- Many of our contributors work in the industry. Their roles and relevant clients are disclosed in their biography and alongside their articles.
Use of AI #
Our journalists may use AI tools for transcription, translation, research and data analysis. Everything we publish is reported, written, edited and fact-checked by people, who are accountable for it. We do not publish AI-generated images as photographs.
Who we are #
Every article carries a byline. Biographies of our editors are on our Team page. The Global Editor in Chief is responsible for everything we publish.
Corrections and complaints #
We correct our mistakes promptly and in the open.
How to report an error #
Email contact@jingdaily.com with a link to the article, what you believe is wrong and, if you can, a source for the correct information.
What we do #
- Corrections. If we got a fact wrong, we fix the article.
- Clarifications. If something was accurate but unclear or missing important context, we amend it.
- Minor fixes. We correct typos and formatting without a note, provided the meaning does not change.
We apply the same rule everywhere we publish. An error on social media is corrected in the same channel; a correction to an English article is carried through to its Chinese version.
What we don’t do #
We do not remove them at the request of the companies or people they cover. We take an article down only for legal reasons. We do not alter opinions or analysis because their subject disagrees with them.
If you are not satisfied #
The Managing Editor decides on corrections. If you disagree with the outcome, write to the Global Editor in Chief at editor@jingdaily.com, who will review it and reply within 10 working days.
