Gucci’s Demna turns Times Square into a Cruise runway

Gucci creative director Demna unveiled his debut Cruise collection Saturday night in New York, transforming Times Square into a runway. The “GucciCore” collection, livestreamed on Times Square billboards, nods to Manhattan as the site of Gucci's first store outside Italy, opened in 1953. Models including Cindy Crawford and Tom Brady wore styles from business suits to full-length gowns before an audience including Anna Wintour and Mariah Carey. The show followed Demna’s Milan debut in February; appointed last July after a decade at Balenciaga, he now leads Gucci’s revival under parent Kering, which saw brand sales drop 8% in Q1.
