China’s retail sales climb 3.7% in 2025

China’s retail sales of consumer goods climbed 3.7% YoY in 2025, reaching 50.12 trillion RMB ($7.15 trillion), according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Final consumption expenditure’s contribution to economic growth stood at 52%, up 5 percentage points from the previous year, as China’s economy expanded 5% YoY. Online retail sales jumped 8.6% YoY to 15.97 trillion RMB ($2.28 trillion), with online physical goods sales rising 5.2% YoY to 13.09 trillion RMB ($1.87 trillion), accounting for 26.1% of total retail sales. Services spending accounted for 46.1% of per capita consumption, driven by growth in culture, tourism, entertainment, and sporting events.
