The 2025 Shanghai Marathon concluded its 29th edition on November 30, with 23,000 runners participating in an event serving as the second year of its evaluation for entry into the Abbott World Marathon Majors series. The field included 43 elite international and domestic athletes and 19 wheelchair racers. Ethiopia’s Milkesa Mengesha won the men’s title, while Kenyan runner Brigid Kosgei claimed the women’s title. China’s Feng Peiyou and Zhang Deshun were the top Chinese male and female finishers, respectively. Organizers continued their push to meet Abbott World Marathon Majors standards by refining operations — including a three-wave start system and optimized runner corrals — and incorporating local cultural elements along the route.
