Volkswagen to export China-made vehicles globally

Volkswagen will export vehicles developed and manufactured in China to international markets, Chief Technology Officer Thomas Ulbrich announced Tuesday. The move leverages the company’s Chinese technical expertise to compete with local rivals abroad. After recently beginning exports of China-made petrol sedans to the Middle East, Volkswagen is evaluating additional models for Southeast and Central Asia markets. Ulbrich clarified there are no plans to export these vehicles to Europe due to differing electronic architecture requirements. The company revealed that developing new EV models in China costs up to 50% less than elsewhere. Volkswagen will soon sell vehicles based on its China-developed electronic architecture in markets outside China.
