Tokyo Base shifts China strategy to smaller stores
Japanese fashion group Tokyo Base, parent of multi-brand retailer Studious, has announced a revised China strategy for the current fiscal year (February 2025 to January 2026), shifting from a high-risk, high-return model to a mid-risk, mid-return approach. The company will close unprofitable stores and focus on opening smaller 165 sqm locations in core cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, targeting 3 billion Japanese yen ($19 million) in annual sales from China. This year, Tokyo Base is opening three new stores: Studious Beijing (159 sqm), Studious Shanghai Fumin Road (149 sqm), and Conz Shanghai Fumin Road (159 sqm).
