Japanese beauty group Pola Orbis exits China subsidiary

Japanese beauty group Pola Orbis Holdings announced on May 26 that it will dissolve and liquidate its Chinese subsidiary, Orbis Trading (Beijing), expecting to incur a special loss of about 1.3 billion Japanese yen ($9.0 million) but reduce corporate tax expenses by around Japanese yen 1.6 billion ($11.1 million) if completed within fiscal 2025. The move has sparked speculation over whether the Orbis brand is exiting China. However, company records show Pola Orbis still operates multiple legal entities in China, and the Orbis Beijing closure is limited to one subsidiary. Founded in 2008, Orbis Beijing has seen declining performance, with FY2024 revenue at 783 million Japanese yen ($5.4 million).
