JLR to end Jaguar production in China, launch Freelander model
JLR will cease production of the Jaguar XE, XF, and E-Pace models at its Chery joint venture plant in Changshu, China by September, with production of the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport to end by late 2026. These models will be replaced by the new Freelander, built on Chery’s T1X platform. Despite a 34% YoY sales drop and a 14 million euros ($17.5 million) loss in China, JLR achieved record global pre-tax profit of 2.5 billion euros ($3.1 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 2025. The upcoming Freelander will be offered in both electric and extended-range versions, designed with Chinese specifications and sold through Chery’s dealer network.
