Tesla halts US-made model orders in China
Tesla has halted new orders for its U.S.-made Model S and X vehicles on its Chinese website and WeChat mini program, amid escalating U.S.-China trade tensions. China raised tariffs on U.S. imports to 125%, following Trump’s 145% hike on Chinese goods. The models accounted for less than 0.5% of Tesla’s 2024 China deliveries. The company continues producing Model 3 and Y locally in Shanghai, which form most of its China sales. Competition from EV makers like Build Your Dreams (BYD) has also affected Tesla’s premium segment.
