China targets senior travelers with specialized trains

China is launching a nationwide network of tourist trains equipped with medical and eldercare facilities by 2027, targeting retirees as part of its efforts to develop a “silver economy” and stimulate spending among its rapidly aging population. The initiative, outlined in a joint guideline by the Culture and Tourism and Commerce ministries and China State Railway Group, aims to offer diverse tourist routes and comprehensive services for seniors. The plan encourages participation from international tourism companies, supports funding from national and local railway development funds, and integrates medical services, allowing health insurance claims for onboard medical expenses.
