South Korean tourists to China surge 115.6% in 2024
According to the Ministry of Justice’s monthly statistical report released today, the number of South Korean tourists visiting mainland China reached 2.31 million in 2024, an increase of 115.6% compared to the previous year. Additionally, the number of South Korean tourists visiting Hong Kong (99.7%), Laos (58.5%), Mongolia (40.3%), and Indonesia (38.2%) also saw significant growth. Data from the online travel platform Klook shows that in November 2023, bookings for Chinese travel products in South Korea increased by about 70% compared to October, with the most popular destinations being Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Xiamen. Demand for travel to China in January 2024 rose by 77% YoY, far exceeding the 20% growth for Japan during the same period, largely driven by visa-free policies and base effects.
