Zara to close two stores in Changsha as Inditex reshapes China strategy
Zara’s stores in Changsha Huiju Center and Beichen Delta Joy City are set to close on January 19, following ongoing store adjustments by its parent company, Inditex, in China. Since 2021, Inditex has scaled back its presence in China, with brands like Bershka and Pull&Bear exiting the market. Zara’s store count in mainland China has dropped from 183 in 2018 to 96 in 2024. Despite these closures, Inditex is renovating flagship stores and plans to open a major Zara flagship in Nanjing in 2025. Industry analysts believe that Zara’s shift toward a higher-end market is behind the closures, which are driven by factors such as sales performance and brand positioning.
