Indonesia maintains ban on e-commerce platform Temu

Indonesia will maintain its ban on e-commerce platform Temu due to concerns it could harm the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises, as stated by Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi. Temu, operated by PDD Holdings, which also owns Pinduoduo, has faced resistance from Indonesian authorities because its direct-to-consumer business model violates local trade regulations requiring intermediaries. Despite multiple attempts to register in Indonesia, Temu has been denied entry, with officials emphasizing the need to protect local businesses. This ban mirrors Indonesia’s prior action against TikTok Shop, also aimed at safeguarding smaller merchants and user data.
