Nature destinations top Chinese travelers’ list for upcoming holiday

As the National Day holiday (October 1) approaches, data from Chinese travel platform Mafengwo shows a 116% increase in interest for “fall travel” over the past month, with nature destinations becoming the top choice for outdoor autumn activities. Cultural works such as dramas and games are significantly influencing young people’s travel decisions, particularly driving demand for Xinjiang, which topped booking numbers after featuring in the drama My Altay. Outdoor activities like hiking have also surged in popularity, with the average interest in hiking rising over 80%. Road trips and in-depth travel experiences are expected to rise, with flexible self-driving journeys favored by families and young travelers.
