South Korea intensifies efforts to attract Chinese tourists
South Korea has intensified efforts to attract Chinese tourists. According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, together with the Korea Association of Travel Agents, recently selected 16 tourism projects for Chinese group tours, focusing on themes like culture, leisure, and local specialties. Following the lifting of China’s ban on group tours to South Korea in August 2023, the number of Chinese visitors in the first half of this year has already surpassed last year’s total. The share of group tours rose from 8.6% in late 2022 to 25% in the first half of 2023. Last year, Chinese tourists spent an average of $2,324 per person, primarily on food and shopping.
