International flight prices drop as Chinese airlines increase routes

China’s major airlines have increased flights, leading to an oversupply and a drop in international ticket prices. This decline is due to the waning “revenge spending” trend following the pandemic. Travel package prices, such as trips to Japan, have dropped significantly, with international flight prices averaging 2,183 RMB ($299) this summer, 26% lower than last year. Although domestic flights resumed in 2023, international routes have only recently seen a significant recovery. Airlines have restored and added new routes, with more flights connecting China to destinations like Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK.
