General Motors’ joint venture with SAIC has unveiled an Autopilot-style advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for its Century model, aimed at highway driving with features like autopilot overtaking and lane switching. Known as Navigation on Pilot (NOP), it’s the first of its kind among peers in China to offer over-the-air updates. Developed locally in Shanghai, the Level 2 system requires driver oversight and utilizes high-definition mapping. Meanwhile, SAIC-Volkswagen launched its 2024 Tiguan L with ADAS from DJI, focusing on safety features such as collision avoidance. Competitors like Xpeng Motors and Li Auto are developing ADAS for urban settings with less dependence on precise geolocation.
