Peninsula Hotels Go All-Out For Chinese New Year

Special Rates, Dining Options, Decorations Cater To China's Globetrotters With the Year of the Snake just around the corner, we've already seen a number of brands incorporate serpentine flourishes, from massive light-up snakes outside Bulgari's New York, Rome, and Tokyo flagships to Vacheron Constantin's zodiac-inspired timepieces. Catering to the growing number of tourists who now escape the domestic travel crunch during Chinese New Year, the Peninsula Hotels are rolling out a set of promotions at each of its nine properties worldwide designed with the Chinese guest specifically in mind. Encompassing special room rates, dining offerings, in-room amenities and festive decorations, the offers coincide with a range of activities set to take place on February 10-11. In celebration of Chinese New Year, each of the Peninsula Hotels will be fully decked out in red and stocked with red lanterns, red flowers and pink-blossomed plum trees (representing good luck), kumquat bushes (symbolizing prosperity), while guestrooms come stocked with auspicious items like tangerines, melon seeds, dumplings, red packets and chocolate coins. In addition, each hotel will be offering its own set of localized promotions. In the US, the Peninsula's three hotels (New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills) feature a stay-and-shop experience that includes a $1,000 gift certificate by Van Cleef & Arpels and a lucky room rate of $888. The hotelier also puts its own spin on the Chinese New Year tradition of gathering friends and family to eat dumplings, with each hotel creating its own dumpling based on location -- Chicago features the Windy City Dumpling, while Beverly Hills has crispy California spring rolls, New York creates a tasting menu inspired by each of the five boroughs, and Shanghai goes for soup dumplings. On February 11, the Peninsula Hong Kong takes dining to another high with a Fireworks menu that gives guests a chance to sip Champagne on the hotel's Sun Terrace while taking in the fireworks display over Victoria Harbour. Specific promotions offered by each of the Peninsula's Hotels include: THE PENINSULA HONG KONG - Three menus: Fortune (HK$ 10,888 plus 10% service charge for a table of 10 persons), Wealth (HK$ 13,888 plus 10% service charge for a table of 10 persons) and Longevity (HK$ 15,888 plus 10% service charge for a table of 10 persons) offer auspicious dishes to see in the new year. - Lunar New Year Puddings (New Year Pudding, Turnip Pudding, Water Chestnut Pudding and Taro Pudding) are available. - Each restaurant offers a special Fireworks menu on 11 February with Champagne on the Sun Terrace to view the spectacular new year fireworks display. THE PENINSULA SHANGHAI - A peach tree and kumquat trees are on display at The Lobby and each restaurant with red packets hung on all trees representing good luck, happiness and fortune in the new year. - Each stone lion at the entrance wears a big red Chinese bow, bringing additional fortune to the property and the guests who patronize the hotel. - On Chinese New Year’s Eve, each in-house guest receives a red packet with a chocolate “gold coin” inside to bring good fortune in the year ahead. - Lion Dance on Chinese New Year’s Day – an award-winning lion dance troupe performs at the Lobby, to which all hotel staff and in-house guests are welcome to join.
