Event Watch: Viessmann & UCCA “Embedded Creation” (Beijing, April 28-May 6)

Exploring The Dialogue Between Corporate Design & Art A partnership with Beijing's Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) and Zcontemporary, from April 28-May 6 the German heating technology manufacturer Viessmann's Chinese subsidiary will hold a new art project designed to explore the intersection of corporate design and art in China: "Embedded Creation." Featuring work by artists Miika Benedetti, Ingo Bulla, Chen Kun, Ding Xin, Feng Lianghong, Wendy Hack, Hu Qinwu, Hu Shengping, Li Gang, Jeffrey Stephen Miller & Thomas Schmidt and Yang Liming, the exhibition includes everything from ceramics, photography, video art and painting to sculpture and installation. Much like Viessmann's collaboration last Christmas with the Opposite House luxury hotel, which included a six meter tall "tree" constructed out of 105 reclaimed solar thermal vacuum tubes, "Embedded Creation" includes industrial design in the form of Viessmann heating systems. As an event release notes, "Corporate design and art permeate and complement each other being both source and essence. As [a] pioneer undertaking, 'Embedded Creation' may be understood as inspiration to follow, a dialogue started whose continuation lives from its ongoing exploration." Participating artists and their works include: Miika Benedetti, who approaches the project via an installation featuring a gas fired wall-hung boiler. Chen Kun , who covers vacuum solar tubes with lofty shimmering and seemingly fleeting lines to resemble nerves or blood vessels. Feng Lianghong , who places an oil fired cast iron boiler into an endless ethereal space. Wendy Hack , who recomposes parts of a wall-hung boiler into a kinetic mobile artwork. Hu Qinwu , who focuses on the aspect of elegance and minimalistic principles integrating traditional Ming style furniture into a brine/water heat pump.
