Galeries Lafayette to shutter Beijing flagship on May 27

French department store Galeries Lafayette will close its Beijing Xidan store on May 27, following the 2025 shutdown of its Chongqing location, leaving only two mainland China stores: Shanghai Lujiazui and Shenzhen UpperHills. Opened in 2013 as the brand’s mainland flagship, the Beijing store spans approximately 47,000 sqm and houses over 300 brands. China CEO Nicolas Morineaux, appointed in late 2023 with a background at LVMH and Richemont, faces mounting pressure as lease disputes with local businesses surface ahead of mid-June court dates. Parent company Galeries Lafayette Group posted flat 2025 fiscal sales of 3.1 billion euros ($3.63 billion), with its Paris flagship generating two-thirds of group revenue.
