Chinese travelers gain visa-free access to Brazil

Brazil announced that from May 11, 2026, Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports can enter the country visa-free for stays of up to 30 days. The policy follows China's 2025 reciprocal visa exemption for Brazil and other South American nations, eliminating lengthy application requirements for both sides. The shift makes Brazil more accessible to Chinese tourists eager to explore Rio de Janeiro, the Amazon, and Iguazu Falls. Experts note, however, that high airfares and lengthy travel times remain significant barriers, meaning the policy may boost interest more than actual arrival numbers.
