Sotheby’s to auction landmark 300-piece Cartier watch collection

Sotheby’s will present what it calls the most comprehensive collection of vintage Cartier watches ever assembled — over 300 pieces spanning a century of design, gathered over 25 years, across sales in Hong Kong, Geneva, and New York. Titled “The Shapes of Cartier,” the sale spotlights key designs including the Tank, Baignoire, and Crash, alongside rare London-era pieces. Cartier ranks second only to Rolex among Swiss watch brands, with estimated sales of 3.5 billion Swiss francs ($4.38 billion) in 2025, up 10% YoY. The Hong Kong auction opens April 24, led by a 1987 yellow-gold Cartier London Crash estimated at $400,000 to $800,000. The collection is expected to realize more than $15 million.
