BYD fast-tracks South Africa network growth
Chinese EV manufacturer BYD is accelerating its dealer network expansion in South Africa due to strong demand. The company expects to reach its initial target of 35 dealerships by Q1 2026, ahead of schedule, and aims for 60-70 outlets by end of 2025. The announcement accompanied the launch of its Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid SUV, priced from 499,900 rand ($29,476). BYD’s entry-level Dolphin EV is currently its bestseller in the market. To support growth, BYD plans to build up to 300 fast-charging stations in South Africa by 2026.
